Natural forms, those things leading out, up, under, and away, inspire my work. Things such as landforms, water, wings, and insects that fly, shed, burrow or transform. Even in abstract works, I recognize that natural forms emerge, unearthed from what I observe, think, and feel. In my work I am reaching for meaning and synthesis of experience. The process is one of self-discovery and aesthetic fusion.
The process is also about letting go, shedding, moving on, and adjusting my perspective. Meaning is given to ordinary occurrences through associations, re-positioning in a fluid process. Re-imagining my surroundings brings greater clarity and meaning to disconnected experiences, allowing me to dig deeper in everyday life. As Thoreau wrote in Walden, I would drink deeper, fish in the sky, whose bottom is pebbly with stars.
